Resolving issues with an employee

Updated 2 years ago

It's important to note that Student Job Search is the intermediary in the relationship between employers and students. We are neither the employer, nor employee of either party. This means:

  1. By agreeing to our Terms and Conditions, employers are agreeing to abide by all New Zealand laws and regulations related to our services.
  2. If it is a student’s intent to pursue unlawful or immoral behaviour, Student Job Search will do everything we reasonably can to protect employers, but ultimately the risk falls with the employer.

Key operating principles

The safety and welfare of students is paramount. Student Job Search won't knowingly promote jobs that may jeopardise student welfare or that conflict with the spirit of Student Job Search.

We're committed to enabling students to make informed decisions regarding any and all jobs advertised. We'll act honestly and keep our partners informed of our intentions. If we're in doubt as to whether a student has breached the rules of conduct and/or is acting in a way that may harm the reputation of Student Job Search and/or students, we'll investigate and decide what action is necessary. If we find any student is in the wrong, we'll look to either temporarily suspend or ban the student indefinitely from using Student Job Search.

Read our Terms and Conditions and Rules of conduct.

While we are committed to supporting employers that raise concerns with us, the SJS team are not employment relations professionals. This means we are not able to provide specific advice regarding employment issues.

Things we can do to help resolve issues include:

  • Talking an issue through with employers and students.
  • Suspending or banning students from our services if we believe they haven't complied with our Terms and Conditions.
  • Supporting employers to identify and get in touch with employment relations professionals.
  • Supporting employers to gather the information that may be required by employment relations professionals.
